Ever responded to a notification on your phone to feel that relief of reply sent, job done, to return back to your phone to see more message notifications have popped up in response moments later?
It's never-ending, distracting and impossible if you're craving for that feeling of being on top of things, that feeling of in control.
Of course it may be an important conversation, and necessary, but what if we could slow things down and create space between message notifications?
There is a new movement for this and it starts with deleting the chat messaging apps (like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal) and instead communicating purely through your device's native messaging app (like iMessage, Google Messages).
People who have done this report a slowing of responses as expectations to respond are different between chat messaging apps and native messaging apps.
The expectation on a chat messaging app is akin to holding a real-time chat conversation and so responses come quick and fast.
With native messaging apps, with them being associated and tied with original SMS/MMS messaging, the expectation to respond quickly is dulled.
What about group messages, messaging iOS to Android contacts and vice versa, and sending rich media files? RCS (Rich Communication Services) is a new technology designed to replace SMS/MMS and support all of the above. Google Messages supports RCS, and recently with the release of iOS 18, Apple now supports the new technology too.
So what better time than now to try it out?
